No, our lessons are 50/50, split between riding and groundwork. Here at Rocking Horse Riding Club we teach proper horsemanship, not just riding. Horsemanship does include riding, but it also means learning proper handling, grooming, and saddling/unsaddling the horse before and after the ride. A majority of horse related incidents occur off the horse, so teaching correct horsemanship on the ground is extremely important to our students safety. Safely handling your horse on the ground also forms a bond, that will improve your horse's attention, trust, and attitude under saddle.
At Rocking Horse Riding Club, the majority of our students are kids but we always love teaching adults and are happy to have you riding with us. Any students younger than the age of 13 will not be paired with adults for lessons. Unless it is specifically requested (such as parent & child).
Yes and no. Horseback riding is a unique sport and requires you to be partnered with an animal with their own thoughts. our goal is to create a well rounded rider who can ride and communicate with any horse. With this in mind, we use a variety of horses in our lesson program. with safety being our top priority, a rider will never be paired with a horse above their skillset.
With year-round temperatures always changing in Indiana, all lessons are held inside the fully enclosed indoor arena. We are located at Rise and Shine Tennessee Walking Horse Barn in West Kokomo.
Yes! Our horses love carrots and apples. Apples are best if they are cut into quarters, and yes, the horses can eat the core. Be careful not to feed any horses you don't know, some horses have allergies or other medical problems and can't eat treats. A couple of our horses have strict diet restrictions, so be sure to check with an instructor before feeding any horse.
